The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has projected victory for opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 elections though the polls are years away.

The EIU, however, says it expects the opposition to present a fresh face for the presidential contest despite reports that former President John Mahama will contest to lead the party again.

Meanwhile, the ruling NPP government are eager to break the eight year jinx in Ghana’s elections.

Ghana’s political elections has been characterized as a eight-year term since 1992, meaning no ruling government has ever gone beyond eight years in office.

However, the Member of Parliament for Ashaiman has debunked EIU’s recent projections that the NDC party needs a new face to regain power.

Mr Ernest Norgbey said NDC does not need to present a new flagbearer to recapture the presidential seat in 2024.
According to him, the former president, Mr John Mahama is the surest bet to bring NDC back to government again.
Speaking to JoyNews, monitored by Ghanaarticles.com, Mr Norgbey said, “NDC cannot go into this election with any other candidate rather than John Dramani Mahama.”
He further noted that the NDC party need to ride on the shoulders of John Mahama who has been in the system for a very long time and who can win power in 2024.
“So in as much as I believe in their predictions that we are going to win power in 2024 massively and even win the majority in parliament, I cannot understand their methodology for saying that we can only win if we introduce a new face,” the MP for Ashaiman said.
